In the spring of 2022, a domestic tragedy unfolded in Saginaw, Michigan, ending the life of 32-year-old Margaret Cheryal Amos Welch. On the morning of April 9th, law enforcement officers were dispatched to a residence in Buena Vista Township following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Margaret deceased, having sustained at least one fatal gunshot wound.
Another individual, a 22-year-old man, was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound to his leg.
The incident quickly escalated as the primary suspect, identified as Margaret's husband, Deandre R. Welch, fled the scene, leading to a multi-county police chase. The pursuit, involving various law enforcement agencies, concluded in Genesee County where Deandre was apprehended with the assistance of a K9 unit.
Following his capture, Deandre R. Welch faced a litany of serious charges related to his wife's death and the subsequent chase. These charges included open murder, assault with intent to murder, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and multiple firearm offenses. As the legal process began, it was revealed that Deandre was a truck driver with connections to both the Saginaw area and Wayne County. He was charged with open murder, which encompasses both first and second-degree murder and carries a potential life sentence, in addition to charges of assault with intent to murder, carrying a concealed weapon, fleeing and eluding police, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
