On a Sunday afternoon in Saginaw, Michigan, the life of 35-year-old Shardae T. Davenport was tragically cut short. On April 3, 2022, police responded to a call of a shooting at a residence in the 1200 block of Dillon Street. Inside, they found Davenport, who had sustained at least one fatal gunshot wound. Her death marked the fourth homicide in the city that year.
Known affectionately as 'Shardy-Lo,' Shardae was a beloved member of her community. Born on October 15, 1986, she was a graduate of Carrollton High School, class of 2008. Remembered for her infectious smile and gentle spirit, she had a deep love for children and worked as a caregiver at Bethesda Lutheran Homes & Services in nearby Frankenmuth. Her sudden and violent death sent shockwaves through her family and all who knew her.
The investigation into her murder, a collaborative effort between the Saginaw Police Department and Michigan State Police, quickly led to a suspect. A search warrant was obtained, and just days later, authorities arrested 15-year-old Lorenzo Jones, Jr. in connection with the fatal shooting.
Despite his age, the Saginaw County Prosecutor's Office charged Jones as an adult with open murder, which encompasses both first and second-degree murder, and a charge of felony firearm. He was arraigned in district court and subsequently held at the Saginaw County Juvenile Detention Center.
