In the late hours of a November evening in Saginaw, Michigan, the life of 47-year-old Kari Jo Hatfield, a mother of three from the nearby city of Midland, was tragically cut short. On November 23, 2024, police responded to a call and found Hatfield lying in the road near the intersection of Perkins and South 12th streets. She had sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation into her death quickly led Saginaw police to two suspects, Henry Linzy and his cousin, Thomas Baskin, both of Saginaw. Authorities located the two men inside Hatfield's blood-stained vehicle. Evidence suggested that Hatfield had been shot inside her car before her body was left on the street.
Both Linzy and Baskin were arrested and arraigned on November 27, 2024, facing charges of open murder, tampering with evidence, and several weapons charges. They were held without bond in the Saginaw County Jail. As the legal process began to unfold, the charges against Henry Linzy were dismissed on January 28, 2025.
Thomas Baskin, however, continued to face the charges brought against him. His jury trial was scheduled to begin in Saginaw County Circuit Court in early October 2025. In an unexpected turn of events, the trial was halted before it could commence when Baskin's attorney, James Gust, was permitted to withdraw from the case. As of the latest available information, a new trial date for Thomas Baskin had not been scheduled, leaving the final chapter in the quest for justice for Kari Jo Hatfield's death to be written.
