On a late summer evening in Alexander, Arkansas, the lively sounds of a gathering were tragically silenced by gunfire. On August 22, 2014, Joe Thomas Dickerson Jr., a 40-year-old Black man from Little Rock, was shot and killed. The violent incident also claimed the life of 54-year-old Patricia Tucker of Alexander.
The shooting occurred at a residence near Vine Street and Highway 111 where approximately 20 people were gathered for a regular weekend get-together.
According to witness accounts, the festive atmosphere was shattered around 11:45 p.m. when two men entered the home. After inquiring about a specific individual, the men began firing indiscriminately into the crowd.
The sudden eruption of violence left partygoers in shock and fear. One witness recounted the terrifying moments, stating that the assailants "didn't care who they killed." In the aftermath, Dickerson and Tucker were found with fatal gunshot wounds. No other injuries were reported among the attendees.
