On a Tuesday afternoon in Grand Rapids, Michigan, what was meant to be a solemn remembrance tragically turned into another scene of violence. DeShowne Andre Kirkland, a 21-year-old male, was shot and killed on May 12, 2020, while attending a vigil for a friend who had been slain a year earlier. The gathering was taking place at Garfield Park Cemetery on the city's southeast side when gunfire erupted around 4 p.m.
