On a Friday evening in Inkster, Michigan, the life of 28-year-old Tyron Larkins was tragically cut short. On November 13, 2020, Larkins, a Black male, was inside Moe's Chicken on Middlebelt Road, engaged in what appeared to be a friendly conversation with a woman. The ordinary scene took a horrific turn at approximately 7:06 p.m. when another man entered the restaurant and approached him.
Without any apparent warning, the man, later identified as 28-year-old Marvin Maurice Mallory,
fatally shot Larkins in the face at close range. The sudden and brutal nature of the attack left the community in shock. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, leaving friends, family, and investigators to grapple with the senseless loss of a young life.
A thorough investigation was swiftly launched by the Michigan State Police in conjunction with the Inkster Police Department and a Homicide Task Force. Their collaborative efforts quickly led to the identification of Marvin Maurice Mallory as the primary suspect. He was subsequently arrested and faced a litany of serious charges for his alleged role in the death of Tyron Larkins.
On December 5, 2020, Mallory was formally arraigned in the 22nd District Court in Inkster. The charges brought against him were severe: First Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and two counts of Felony Firearm. Following the arraignment, he was remanded to the Wayne County Jail to await further legal proceedings. A Probable Cause Conference was scheduled for December 16, 2020, with a Preliminary Examination to follow before a judge.
