On the evening of New Year's Eve, December 31, 2025, the life of 34-year-old Rondale Harris of Inkster, Michigan, was tragically cut short. At approximately 7:25 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Longfellow Street following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered Harris, whose full name was Rondell Russell Harris, unresponsive in the living room, having sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Emergency medical personnel transported Harris to
a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The initial moments of the investigation were marked by a sense of urgency, as an open 911 line captured someone screaming, "They killed him." The alleged shooter was reported to have fled the scene immediately after the incident.
An investigation by the Inkster Police Department led to the identification of a suspect, 19-year-old Brocc Pedro Straughter, also of Inkster. Police say Straughter jumped a fence near Cherry Hill and ran towards Middle Belt Road after the shooting. He was apprehended by authorities on January 6, 2026.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office subsequently charged Straughter with first-degree murder and felony firearm possession in connection with Harris's death. Straughter's arraignment was scheduled to take place in early January 2026. The case against him will proceed through the court system.
