In the winter of 2016, a young Black man named Dakari Mitchell, 21 years old, became the victim of a fatal shooting in Inkster, Michigan. On February 7th, Mitchell had arranged to meet someone to purchase a PlayStation 4 video game console he had seen advertised online. He informed a relative of his plans before leaving, but tragically, he never made it back home.
Mitchell was discovered in his vehicle at the intersection of Magnolia and Glenwood streets.
He had been shot while sitting in the driver's seat. The suspect was described as a Black male with short dreadlocks, wearing a dark-colored jacket. After the shooting, this individual was reportedly seen getting into the back of a dark-colored vehicle that then fled the scene.
The circumstances of Mitchell's death were alarmingly similar to another homicide that had occurred just one week earlier in the same vicinity. In that incident, another man was also killed after being lured to the area under the pretense of an online sale. Despite the striking parallels between the two cases, authorities did not definitively link them. The investigation into Dakari Mitchell's murder remains ongoing, and as of late 2025, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with his death. The case has left a lasting impact on the community, serving as a tragic reminder of the potential dangers of online transactions.
