In the quiet evening of March 22, 2024, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, a tragedy unfolded that cut short the life of 20-year-old Adrianna Howell. She was a young Black / African American woman whose life was just beginning. That evening, around 5:15 PM, she was discovered inside a parked vehicle in the 200 block of Beard Street, having sustained what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
Adrianna was pronounced dead at the scene, her future abruptly and violently extinguished.
Alongside Adrianna in the vehicle was another 20-year-old woman, Mahayla Swayze, who was also found with gunshot injuries. Emergency services transported Swayze to a local hospital, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries two days later on March 24, 2024. A third individual, a juvenile male, was also located nearby in the 200 block of North Patterson Street with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The incident sent ripples of shock and grief through the Hot Springs community.
The Hot Springs Police Department launched an immediate and thorough investigation into the shooting. Their efforts quickly identified multiple juvenile suspects believed to be involved in the violent altercation. In the days that followed, the investigation led to the apprehension of those responsible. Two juvenile suspects were arrested on the Monday following the incident, and a third juvenile suspect turned himself in to the authorities on Tuesday. All three suspects are now facing serious charges, including capital murder and aggravated robbery, as the community grapples with the senseless loss of two young lives.
