In the spring of 2021, a concerned family member's call for a welfare check led to a grim discovery at a residence on North Broad Street in Battle Creek, Michigan. On May 1st, police entered the home of 61-year-old Daniel Murray to find he had been fatally shot. Investigators believe the tragic event took place earlier that week, sometime between the late hours of Monday, April 26th, and the early morning of April 27th.
An autopsy would later confirm that Murray had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the death of the male victim quickly zeroed in on a person of interest. Evidence gathered from the scene, including the recovery of Murray's stolen vehicle and music equipment, pointed towards 48-year-old Monica Gordon. Authorities believe that Gordon and Murray were acquaintances. Following the murder, it is alleged that Gordon took several items from Murray's home, including a. 45-caliber handgun, in addition to the vehicle and music equipment.
On Thursday, May 6, 2021, Battle Creek Police arrested Monica Gordon in connection with Daniel Murray's death. She was subsequently arraigned on serious charges, including open murder and felony firearm, and identified as a habitual offender. Gordon was held in the Calhoun County Jail without bond. Detectives suggested that the connection between Gordon and Murray may have been related to mutual drug use. Following a preliminary examination, a judge ordered Monica Gordon to stand trial for the shooting death of Daniel Murray, setting the stage for further legal proceedings to bring justice for the untimely and violent end to his life.
