On February 17, 2023, Jack Snyder, a 17-year-old senior at Battle Creek Central High School in Michigan, was fatally shot during a carjacking incident. Snyder had just left his girlfriend's birthday party when he spotted two teenagers walking in the cold in Battle Creek. Out of kindness, he offered them a ride home.
