In Saginaw, Michigan, a 34-year-old Black/African American man named Omar Christopher Jones, affectionately known to friends and family as 'Skeeter,' was a devoted father and an active member of his community. Born on October 6, 1986, he was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like fishing, hunting, and, most importantly, spending quality time with his children. He was a familiar and friendly face at the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church and was known for his dedication to his children's lives and activities. His smile was said to light up his mother's heart.
The afternoon of Saturday, May 29, 2021, turned tragic for Omar Jones. At approximately 1:30 PM, he was at the Stop N Shop party store located at 265 S. Outer Drive in Buena Vista Township. It was there that his life was cut short when he was fatally shot. Emergency services were called to the scene, but Omar Jones was pronounced dead from his injuries. The sudden and violent nature of his death sent shockwaves through the Saginaw community, leaving his family and friends in a state of profound grief and disbelief.
In the wake of the shooting, the Buena Vista Township Police Department launched a homicide investigation. However, from the outset, authorities had no immediate leads or information about a potential suspect. Despite appeals to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest, the case has grown cold. To this day, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Omar Jones, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
