An 18-year-old nursing student named Tikiya Allen was tragically killed on July 21, 2021, in Detroit, Michigan, when she was caught in the crossfire of a shooting. A female, Allen was riding her bicycle near the intersection of Pingree and Linwood streets on the city's west side at approximately 4:30 p.m. when the incident occurred. Believed to be an innocent bystander, she was not the intended target of the gunfire.
The shooting involved occupants of a red Ford Taurus, which had a
distinctive paint job and flashy rims. It is reported that three to four men were inside the vehicle when someone opened fire on a group of people. In addition to Allen, a 20-year-old man who was sitting in a nearby vehicle was also struck by the gunfire and critically injured. The suspects fled the scene in the red Taurus after the shooting.
Despite the efforts of the Detroit Police Department and pleas from Tikiya Allen's family for information from the public, no arrests have been made in connection with her murder. The shooter or shooters remain unidentified, and the case continues to be an open investigation. Her family has been vocal in their grief and their quest for justice, holding vigils and making public appeals for anyone with information to come forward. In her memory, a book scholarship was established in her name at Oakland University, where she had been a student.
