On the evening of October 28, 2013, Tiane was last seen at the Wayne State University library. After she failed to pick up her three young daughters from her parents' home in Bloomfield Township, they reported her missing the following day. A grim discovery was made on the morning of October 30th, when her body was found in her SUV in a vacant lot near the abandoned Packard auto plant on Detroit's east side. She had been fatally shot once in the head.
In the immediate aftermath of the discovery, the Detroit police began an intensive investigation. Two individuals were brought in as 'persons of interest' for questioning, though their connection to Tiane, if any, was not publicly disclosed. The investigation also led detectives to look into Tiane's past, including her ex-husband. It was reported that she had previously sought personal protection orders against him.
