Chanell Berry, a 7-year-old African American girl from Detroit, Michigan, was tragically killed on December 27, 2015, in a shooting that took place inside her family’s home. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. while Chanell and her 8-year-old half-sister, Ellen Garjo, were playing with their Christmas presents. Suddenly, gunfire erupted, striking both children. Chanell succumbed to her injuries, while Ellen was wounded but survived.
