In the early hours of August 8, 2021, the life of 29-year-old Raymond Leonard Harbert, Jr., a White/Caucasian male, was tragically cut short in Center Line, Michigan. A father of three from Clinton Township, Harbert was shot multiple times following a confrontation outside a residence on State Park near Landau Street. The incident, which occurred around 1:15 a.m., shattered the quiet of the residential neighborhood, with neighbors reporting a loud commotion followed by the sound of gunshots.
After being shot, Harbert staggered across several lawns before collapsing.
Center Line police responded swiftly to the scene, and their initial investigation led to the arrest of a male suspect from Roseville. The firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered by authorities. However, the name of the individual taken into custody was not released to the public.
In a subsequent development, the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office requested that the Center Line police conduct a more thorough investigation before formal charges would be considered. Consequently, the suspect was released from custody after posting an interim bond. The case remains an ongoing and unsolved investigation, leaving family and community members waiting for justice.
