Paul L. Hutchins, a 30-year-old Michigan State Police trooper, tragically lost his life on August 30, 1985, in Detroit, Michigan. The incident occurred late in the evening of August 29, 1985, when Trooper Hutchins and a companion were walking in the Hart Plaza area after leaving the Landsdowne Restaurant. They were confronted by two young men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The assailants demanded Trooper Hutchins' wallet and his companion's purse.
