On July 18, 2023, Javontae Dayquan Gardner, a 23-year-old resident of Detroit, Michigan, was shot and killed during a verbal altercation at the intersection of Tireman Avenue and St. Mary's Street. Police were called to the scene around 2:18 a.m. and found Gardner with multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen.
