On the east side of Detroit, a tragic scene unfolded on January 20, 2020, at the intersection of Waltham and Eastwood. Demarco Armstrong, a 31-year-old Black/African American male, and his cousin, Allen Armstrong, were discovered inside a black Chevrolet Impala that had crashed into a chain-link fence. Initially reported as a vehicle accident, first responders soon realized the two men had been fatally shot.
Demarco was in the driver's seat, and Allen was in the passenger seat; both were pronounced deceased at the scene by Detroit EMS.
The subsequent investigation into the double homicide led authorities to 24-year-old Oscar Johnson of Harper Woods. U.S. Marshals apprehended Johnson in Lexington, Kentucky. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office brought serious charges against him, including two counts of first-degree premeditated murder, three counts of felony firearm, and one count of a felon in possession of a firearm. At the time of the killings, Johnson was already on probation for drug-related offenses and had a prior criminal record. The case highlighted the persistent issue of gun violence within the Detroit community.
