In the pre-dawn hours of May 1, 2013, 25-year-old Jeremy Thompson was behind the wheel of his Dodge Durango in Detroit, Michigan. He was stopped at a railroad crossing at Seven Mile and Sherwood when his life was abruptly cut short. An armed man approached his vehicle in what authorities believe was an attempted robbery. As Thompson tried to flee the dangerous situation, the assailant opened fire, inflicting a fatal wound.
The young man from Troy, remembered for his selflessness and willingness to always lend a hand, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thompson was known by his loved ones as a kind and simple man who prioritized his family and friends above all else. Material possessions held little meaning for him; his wealth was measured in the relationships he cherished. A graduate of Troy Athens High School and Oakland Community College, where he studied welding, he was employed as a C&C machinist. His sudden and violent death left his family, including his parents and brother, utterly devastated.
In the wake of the shooting, investigators sought the public's help in identifying a suspect. The individual was described as a man between 25 and 30 years old, with a dark complexion, medium build, standing approximately 5'10' to 6' tall. He reportedly had short faded hair, a thin goatee, and an earring in his right ear. A reward was offered for information that could lead to an arrest, a sum that was later increased in the hopes of generating new leads.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement and the pleas of a grieving family, the case has grown cold. No arrests have ever been made in the murder of Jeremy Thompson.
