In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 20, 2014, the body of 19-year-old Jamiel Jackson was discovered lying on the ground in the 4300 block of Tyler Avenue, between Petoskey and Broadstreet avenues on Detroit's west side. A resident of the neighborhood spotted him at approximately 7:40 a.m. and immediately contacted emergency services. When police arrived, they found Jackson unresponsive.
It was later determined that the young man had been shot in the head, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Originally from Sterling Heights, a suburb of Detroit, Jamiel was visiting a friend in the city when his life was tragically cut short. Investigators believe the motive for his murder was the theft of his cellphone, as it was the only possession missing from his person. At the time of his death, he was wearing dark blue jeans, a gray hooded sweatshirt, and black sneakers. His family described him as an outgoing and popular young man who had a love for sports and people.
