Johnny Reid, a saloon keeper and former member of the Egan's Rats gang, was shotgunned to death on Christmas night, December 25, 1926, in the rear of his apartment building at 3025 East Grand Boulevard in Detroit, Michigan. Reid had been working as a liquor agent for the Purple Gang, a notorious organized crime group in Detroit during the Prohibition era.
