The Detroit Police Department's investigation led to the arrest of a suspect on October 13, 2021. The individual taken into custody was identified as Jovin Morice Taylor, a 38-year-old resident of Detroit. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office brought several serious charges against Taylor, including one count of first-degree murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, felon in possession of a firearm, and a second-degree felony firearm charge. Taylor was arraigned in 36th District Court on October 16, 2021, and was ordered to be held in jail. A probable cause conference was scheduled for later that month.
