Laquavius Leon Pearson, a 23-year-old male, was killed in a shooting on the night of Saturday, June 6, 2020, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The fatal incident took place at approximately 11 p.m. at a Marathon gas station located on James I. Harrison Parkway. The location was also identified as the site of Dave's Crimson Bar.
The investigation into the shooting was conducted by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit. It was determined that Laquavius Leon Pearson was shot and killed by his own brother, 22-year-old Joshua Pearson. The shooting was described as accidental, with reports indicating that Joshua was recklessly shooting a gun at the time of the incident. This led to his brother's untimely death.
Following the investigation, Joshua Pearson was taken into custody and subsequently charged with reckless murder for the death of his brother.
In connection with the same fatal shooting, a second suspect was also arrested and faced charges. The Tuscaloosa Police Department and the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit were both involved in the investigation and the apprehension of the suspects. The case was one of 22 homicides investigated in Tuscaloosa County in 2020, a year noted for being one of the most violent in the county's recent history. All 21 non-justified homicide cases from that year, including the death of Laquavius Leon Pearson, resulted in charges being filed.
