On a Friday afternoon, March 18, 2022, a fatal encounter unfolded inside a check-cashing store on Woodward Avenue in Highland Park, Michigan. Saad Hanna Halabo, a 53-year-old male from West Bloomfield, was working at the business when a man, later identified as Paul Clifton McColor, entered the establishment at approximately 4:16 p.m. An argument broke out between the two men, escalating with tragic speed.
The verbal dispute turned violent when McColor allegedly entered the employee area of the store. He then produced a handgun and fired, striking Halabo in the face. The single gunshot proved to be fatal. McColor fled the scene before authorities could arrive, leaving chaos and tragedy in his wake. When Michigan State Police officers were dispatched to the location for a reported shooting, they discovered Halabo deceased inside the store from his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting was swift. The day after the incident, on March 19, 2022, the Michigan State Police apprehended their suspect, 53-year-old Paul Clifton McColor of Detroit. Following his arrest, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office brought multiple charges against him. These charges included felony murder, larceny, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of felony firearm violations. McColor was arraigned in 30th District Court and remanded to jail. A probable cause conference was scheduled for late March 2022 to continue the legal process.
