On a late summer evening in Lansing, Michigan, the life of Anthony Wayne Wright Jr., a 36-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short. On August 27, 2022, Wright was discovered inside a vehicle on the 3200 block of South Washington Avenue, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency services rushed him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal.
His death was the 13th homicide in the city that year.
Known for his bright smile and generous nature, Anthony was a well-loved barber in the community. He was known to offer free haircuts to the homeless, a testament to his philanthropic spirit. A dedicated family man, he was a husband and a father to eight children. His family's grief was compounded by the fact that they had lost Anthony's 17-year-old daughter to gun violence earlier the same year.
The investigation into Anthony Wright Jr.'s murder is ongoing. As of the latest available reports, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with his shooting. The Lansing Police Department has urged anyone with information regarding the case to come forward as his family and community continue to seek justice for their loss. The area where the shooting occurred, the South Washington Park Apartments, had been known for a high volume of police calls, prompting discussions about security measures in the neighborhood.
