In the summer of 2019, a young life was tragically cut short in Lansing, Michigan. Taijion Davon Gant, a 17-year-old male, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019. A student at Okemos High School, Gant was known for his love of basketball and football and was a member of the track and field team.
The events that led to Gant's untimely death unfolded at Ferris Park, stemming from a verbal altercation.
The dispute, which initially involved Kazon Horde and Denzel Gibbons' sister, escalated when Gibbons went to the park to confront Horde. The confrontation turned violent, drawing in Malcolm Williams, who was with Gibbons, and Gant, who was a friend of Horde.
According to court documents, both Gibbons and Williams were armed. A physical struggle over a pistol ensued between Gibbons and Horde, resulting in Horde being shot in the stomach by Gibbons. In the ensuing chaos, Gant reportedly shot Gibbons in the arm. Subsequently, Malcolm Williams fired at Gant, fatally wounding him. Gant died at the scene, while Gibbons and Horde were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Following the incident, Malcolm Williams was identified as the individual who shot Gant and was taken into custody. He appeared in court and was placed on house arrest with a tether. Denzel Gibbons was also charged with assault with intent to murder and assault with a dangerous weapon for his role in the altercation that preceded the fatal shooting.
