In the late hours of a Friday in Lansing, Michigan, the life of a young man was tragically cut short. Just before midnight on April 26, 2024, gunshots shattered the quiet of the 3100 block of North Turner Street. Responding to the scene, emergency personnel discovered 22-year-old Aaron Rudolph Johnson Bey suffering from gunshot wounds. He was a Black / African American male.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital in a desperate attempt to save him, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
Aaron, born in Lansing on June 6, 2001, to Ericka Price and Canaan Bey, was a graduate of Everett High School's class of 2020. He was remembered as a man who loved sports, found peace in fishing, and enjoyed playing video games. He was a father to his son, Isaiah Chambers Bey. His death left a void in the lives of his parents, siblings, grandparents, and a wide circle of family and friends who cherished him.
The investigation into Aaron's death moved swiftly, and an arrest was made in connection with the shooting. Treyveon Green, a 22-year-old resident of Lansing, was taken into custody. The Ingham County Prosecutor's Office filed multiple charges against Green, including discharging a firearm from a vehicle causing death, carrying a concealed weapon, and a felony firearm charge.
Treyveon Green was formally arraigned on his charges on May 1, 2024. Following his arraignment, a probable cause conference was scheduled for May 10, 2024, to determine if there was enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial. The legal process would continue to unfold, seeking to bring justice for Aaron and his grieving family.
