On a crisp autumn afternoon, the life of 18-year-old Kane Coronado, a male from White Cloud, Michigan, was tragically cut short. On November 1, 2022, while enjoying one of his favorite pastimes, riding his bicycle along Indian Mounds Drive in Wyoming, Michigan, a senseless act of violence occurred. At approximately 3:00 p.m., a vehicle drove by, and a single gunshot fatally wounded the young man in the neck.
A bystander rushed to his aid and administered CPR, but the wound was too severe, and Coronado was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation into the homicide left authorities with more questions than answers. It was unclear whether the shooting was a targeted attack or a random act of violence. The location of the incident, a relatively rural area with limited surveillance cameras, presented significant challenges for investigators. Despite the difficulties, a witness was able to provide a description of a person of interest and the vehicle they were driving. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 30 years old, with a thin build, a light or gray colored beard, and wearing a beanie or stocking cap. The vehicle was identified as an older model, gray or silver four-door sedan, possibly a 2000 to 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier, which was seen leaving the area after the shooting.
In the months that followed, the Wyoming Police Department continued to investigate the case, releasing a composite sketch of the suspect to the public. The community, deeply affected by the loss of the young man, held vigils and memorial bike rides in his honor. A reward was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest and, over time, that reward was increased. The case even garnered national attention when it was featured on a popular true-crime podcast, bringing new focus to the unsolved murder. Despite these efforts and numerous tips from the public, no arrests have been made in the case. The investigation remains ongoing as his family, friends, and community continue to seek justice for Kane Coronado.
