Deputy Sheriff Jerry Bryant, aged 44, tragically lost his life on January 5, 1984, in Columbia, Mississippi. Deputy Bryant had only been serving with the Marion County Sheriff's Department for six days when he was fatally shot. On the night of his death, he stopped two suspicious men while investigating a series of burglaries in the area. During this encounter, he was shot and killed by one of the suspects.
