In the summer of 2019, the life of 25-year-old Joshua Deon Woodson was tragically cut short in Columbia, Mississippi. On the morning of June 21st, what began as a domestic dispute escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving a family and community to mourn a life lost too soon.
The incident unfolded inside a trailer located on Bacchus Road, just south of Columbia.
According to the Marion County Sheriff, it appeared Woodson was attempting to leave the residence during an argument with his girlfriend, 24-year-old Janekqua Henry. At approximately 7:46 a.m., dispatch received a call, and upon their arrival, law enforcement found Woodson deceased at the scene from a gunshot wound. His body was later sent to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
The investigation, a joint effort by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and the county coroner, moved swiftly. A person of interest was taken into custody that same morning. By the afternoon, Janekqua Henry was formally charged with second-degree murder in connection with Woodson's death and was booked into the Marion County Jail.
In February of 2021, the legal proceedings came to a close. Janekqua Niyel Henry, then 26, stood before a 15th District Circuit Court Judge and was sentenced to 20 years in prison for her role in the death of Joshua Woodson. The sentencing brought a measure of resolution to a case that began with a heated domestic dispute and ended in the loss of a young man's life.
