In the quiet community of Winder, Georgia, a tragic event unfolded on February 8, 2024, ending the life of 64-year-old Michael Alan Arvold. On that Thursday morning, Barrow County deputies responded to a 911 call about multiple people shot at a residence on Kendall Park Drive. Inside the home, they discovered Michael Arvold and his 66-year-old wife, Susan Denise Arvold, both deceased from gunshot wounds.
The man who placed the 911 call was 35-year-old Cody Donavan Jones, Susan's son and Michael's stepson. Jones was also found at the scene with gunshot injuries. He was transported to a hospital for treatment and placed under guard by law enforcement. While authorities have not officially detailed the sequence of events inside the home, they swiftly identified Jones as the suspect in the double homicide.
Following an initial investigation and questioning at the hospital, arrest warrants were issued for Jones. Upon his release from the medical facility, he is set to be charged with two counts of malice murder for the deaths of his mother and stepfather. The incident was not the first time deputies had been called to the home for a domestic issue. In May of the previous year, Jones had been arrested for stabbing his stepfather, Michael Arvold, in the stomach, telling investigators he did so because he didn't like him. After that incident, Jones was indicted on charges of aggravated assault and weapon possession and was released on bond after a 45-day mental health evaluation. The investigation into the double homicide is ongoing.
