In the quiet town of Columbia, Mississippi, a routine traffic stop on May 8, 1989, spiraled into a tragic event that would claim the lives of two dedicated police officers. Patrolman Billy Doyle Patterson, a 49-year-old White male and a 12-year veteran of the Columbia Police Department, initiated the stop on Main Street, directly in front of the Marion County Courthouse.
