On April 19, 2015, tragedy struck in Canton, Mississippi, resulting in the death of 28-year-old Charles Leonard Jr. The incident occurred in Madison County, where law enforcement officers responded to reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, authorities discovered Leonard, a Black male, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Despite emergency response efforts, his life was cut short that day, adding his name to the local list of victims of gun violence.
The investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department quickly turned familial as they identified a suspect at the scene. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police arrested a man who was revealed to be the victim's own brother. The suspect was taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder in connection with Charles Leonard Jr.'s death.
