He was violently murdered in the driveway of his own home, a horrific event that unfolded in the presence of his 6-year-old grandson. The apparent motive for the attack was a failed robbery attempt.
The investigation into Gilson's death led to the arrests of four individuals who were subsequently charged with capital murder: Virlandrius Gibson, Garrick Price, Alexandria Jennings, and Lucas Edwards.
