On the evening of April 17, 2017, a shopping trip to Memphis ended in tragedy for 38-year-old Aaron Beamon in his hometown of Indianola, Mississippi. The male victim was returning home around 10:13 p.m. with three companions, Svante Pernell, Zachary Lee, and Melissa Ross, when their journey took a fatal turn. As they pulled up to Ross's residence on Galaxy Street in Beamon's Chevrolet Tahoe, two armed men suddenly appeared and unleashed a barrage of gunfire on the vehicle.
The sudden and
violent attack left Beamon, Pernell, and Lee wounded. Despite being injured, the three men managed to flee the scene, seeking refuge at a nearby home where they awaited the arrival of law enforcement. Beamon's life, however, could not be saved; an autopsy would later confirm he died from a gunshot wound to the back, ruling his death a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting ultimately led to the arrest and conviction of Garrick Price. A jury in Sunflower County Circuit Court found Price guilty of the first-degree murder of Aaron Beamon. In addition to the murder charge, Price was also convicted on two counts of attempted first-degree murder for the injuries sustained by Pernell and Lee, as well as a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon. For these crimes, the court sentenced Price to life in prison for the murder, two twenty-year terms for the attempted murders, and five years for the firearm possession, with the sentences to be served concurrently. An additional ten-year sentence, to run consecutively, was added due to a firearm enhancement.
