In the early morning hours of Christmas Eve 2019, tragedy struck in Indianola, Mississippi, ending the life of 17-year-old Aquavious Hines. Hines, a Black male, was fatally shot near Roosevelt Street and Pershing Avenue. In the immediate aftermath, a friend rushed him to South Sunflower County Hospital, but the gunshot wounds were too severe, and he was pronounced dead. His death marked the sixth homicide in Indianola that year.
