On July 21, 2024, a tragic mass shooting occurred on Church Street in Indianola, Mississippi, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Cameron Lee Butts from Greenville, along with two other 19-year-olds, Areon Butler of Indianola and Marquette Baites of Greenville. The incident took place around 1 a.m. near a nightclub where a large crowd had gathered. In addition to the fatalities, at least 19 people were injured, some directly by gunfire and others by ricochet bullets.
