In the spring of 2016, the life of 16-year-old Devonte McGee was tragically cut short in Jackson, Mississippi. On the evening of March 28th, gunshots echoed on Violet Avenue, and Devonte was found lying in a yard, the victim of a fatal shooting. His brother-in-law, Tony Porter, recounted the harrowing experience of hearing the shots and discovering Devonte. The Jackson Police Department was left to investigate another homicide in a year that had already seen significant violence in the city.
