In the early hours of April 27, 2021, Jamichael Jackson, a 28-year-old Black man, was shot and killed in Jackson, Mississippi. The fatal encounter took place around 4:20 a.m. in the parking lot of Aces Gentlemen's Club, located in the 900 block of South West Street. According to police, the shooting was not a random act of violence but was believed to be an act of retaliation stemming from a previous dispute.
Police identified Charlie Thomas as the man who shot Jackson.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, a security guard at the club shot Thomas, leaving him critically wounded. Thomas was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment. After recovering from his injuries, he was released from the hospital and taken into custody by law enforcement.
Thomas was booked at the Raymond Detention Center and charged with murder for the death of Jamichael Jackson. For several years, the case proceeded through the legal system. In July 2025, more than four years after the shooting, Thomas went on trial in Hinds County Circuit Court, facing a charge of first-degree murder.
On August 1, 2025, after deliberating for less than two hours, a jury returned its verdict. Charlie Thomas was found not guilty of murder in the death of Jamichael Jackson. The jury did, however, convict him on a separate charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Thomas faces up to 10 years in prison for the firearms conviction and is awaiting a sentencing date.
As of August 2025, with the acquittal of the only person charged in his death, the murder of Jamichael Jackson remains unsolved.
