In the quiet community of Nicholson, Mississippi, a heated argument shattered the evening calm on October 29, 2016, leaving 39-year-old Mark Johnson Jr. dead and a young man facing a lifetime behind bars. The dispute, which began inside a residence at 35 Davis Dawsey Road, escalated and spilled outside, culminating in a burst of gunfire that would irrevocably alter several lives.
Johnson, a resident of Slidell, Louisiana, was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The ensuing investigation by the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department swiftly led to the identification of a primary suspect: 18-year-old Larry Richard Carver. Neighbors reported hearing the argument before the fatal shots were fired. According to witness statements, the altercation continued as Johnson sat in his vehicle. It was there that Carver allegedly fired a. 22 caliber rifle into the car, striking Johnson five times. As Johnson attempted to crawl away through the passenger side, Carver fired two more shots, striking him in the head in what the chief detective would later describe as the 'most cold-blooded killing' he had ever witnessed.
