In the early winter of 1902, the life of 29-year-old Policeman James Henry Redmond, III, came to an abrupt and violent end on the streets of Jackson, Mississippi. On Saturday, February 1st, Officer Redmond arrested a 16-year-old youth for public drunkenness. As he was escorting the young man to jail, the situation took a tragic turn when the teenager produced a handgun and fatally shot the officer.
