In the quiet city of Meridian, Mississippi, the life of 36-year-old Tony Maurice Wilson was tragically cut short on the night of October 13, 2017. His body was discovered inside a white compact car on Railroad Street, the result of a fatal gunshot wound. The discovery was made after a passerby noticed the vehicle and alerted the authorities. An autopsy later confirmed the cause of death.
The investigation into the shooting death of the Meridian man led the police to appeal to the community for assistance. Their efforts, combined with tips from eyewitnesses, eventually pointed towards a suspect. In August 2018, nearly a year after the incident, the Meridian Police Department charged Alfonzo Lashawn McDonald, then 32, with capital murder in connection with Wilson's death.
Authorities believe that robbery was the motive behind the killing and that McDonald and Wilson were acquainted. At the time of the murder charge, McDonald was already incarcerated on a separate home invasion charge. A handgun was recovered during the investigation and sent to the state crime lab for analysis. Following the charge, McDonald was held without bond and also had a hold from the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
