In the spring of 2018, the life of 51-year-old Charles Berry Hughes, a Black male from Jackson, Mississippi, was cut short in a burst of violence. On the evening of Sunday, May 13th, Hughes was involved in an altercation that ended in gunfire. He sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical care. For five days, he fought for his life, but the damage was too severe. On Friday, May 18, 2018, Charles Hughes succumbed to his wounds.
