In the quiet early hours of a Sunday morning in Jackson, Mississippi, the life of 39-year-old James Gates was tragically cut short. On May 20, 2018, Gates was found suffering from a gunshot wound on Carlisle Street. The discovery was made by officers from the Jackson Police Department who were responding to a call about the shooting. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Gates succumbed to his injuries, leaving a community in shock and a family to grapple with a sudden and violent loss.
