Trooper George Danny Nash, Jr., a 23-year-old officer with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, tragically lost his life on February 4, 1983. Nash had been serving as a trooper for just three months when he was killed in the line of duty. On that fateful day, Nash stopped a speeding vehicle on Highway 84 for traveling 67 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone. Unbeknownst to him, the vehicle was stolen, and its occupants were escaped convicts from the Dooley County Jail in Georgia.
