In a tragic turn of events on June 4, 2022, Marcus T. Moore, a 37-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in Jackson, Mississippi. The incident occurred in the morning, at approximately 9:00 a.m., in the parking lot of the Fuel Time gas station on Bullard Street. Moore was inside his vehicle when he was attacked.
The investigation into Moore's death led authorities to two suspects. Surveillance footage from the gas station proved to be a critical piece of evidence.
The video captured a then 17-year-old Shydarius Williams entering Moore's vehicle, sitting in the back seat, and then exiting with a firearm. It was determined that Williams had shot Moore in the back of the head, causing his death at the scene.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement arrested both Shydarius Williams and his accomplice, Lashundra Bass, who was also inside the vehicle at the time of the murder. Williams faced trial and was ultimately convicted of first-degree murder. He received a sentence of 40 years in prison, with 10 years suspended. Before her own trial could commence in March 2024, Lashundra Bass pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
