In the fading daylight of a late March evening in Jackson, Mississippi, tragedy irrevocably altered the lives of the Bell family. On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, 16-year-old Davonza Bell, a Black male, was fatally wounded in a shooting that also left his 20-year-old brother, Maurice Bell, in critical condition. The incident, which unfolded on that Wednesday, marked a grim milestone as the city's 16th homicide of the year.
