In the early evening of December 10, 2019, tragedy struck at the Azalea Trace apartment complex in Warren County, just outside the Vicksburg, Mississippi city limits. Kameron James Logan, a 19-year-old male, was found lying outside an apartment, the victim of a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The Warren County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 7:30 p.m. and Logan was quickly transported to Merit Health River Region for medical attention. He underwent surgery, but despite the efforts of the medical team, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 11:05 p.m. that night.
The investigation into Logan's death was immediately classified as a homicide, with the Warren County Coroner confirming the cause of death and ordering an autopsy for further evidence. Authorities, including investigators from both the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Vicksburg Police Department, began actively pursuing leads in the case. The shooting was particularly alarming as it was the second such incident at the apartment complex within a three-day period; a 17-year-old had been hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds just days prior. Law enforcement officials expressed a belief that the two shootings might be connected and dedicated a team to investigate both cases vigorously.
Despite their efforts and several promising leads, the investigation faced significant challenges due to a lack of sufficient information to identify a suspect or make an arrest in either of the shootings. Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace remained publicly confident that the case would eventually be resolved and urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers. Funeral services for Logan were held at Triumphant Baptist Church, followed by his interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
