In the summer of 2020, a young man's life was tragically cut short in a Vicksburg, Mississippi hotel. Quinterrious McCoy, a 23-year-old male, was found deceased on the morning of June 27, 2020, inside a room at the Oyo Hotel located on South Frontage Road. The Vicksburg Police Department responded to a call of a shooting at the hotel at approximately 10:36 a.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered McCoy had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The Warren County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene, and his body was sent for an autopsy to officially determine the cause of death.
The investigation into the city's fifth homicide of the year quickly pointed to a suspect. Later that same day, police arrested 30-year-old Cassondra Rochelle Jones-White at her Vicksburg home. She was subsequently charged in connection with McCoy's death. Following her arrest, Jones-White was held without bond at the Issaquena County Correctional Facility as she awaited her initial court appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court to face the allegations against her.
Further legal proceedings unfolded in the months that followed. In November of 2021, a Warren County grand jury handed down an indictment against Cassondra Jones-White. The indictment was for a charge of manslaughter in the heat of passion. This specific charge suggested that the grand jury believed the shooting was not a premeditated act but rather occurred in a moment of sudden and intense emotional distress. The case then moved forward within the judicial system to determine the final outcome of the charges against the accused.
